The 96% Proof

Tuesday 24th saw the winners of the Chase promotion, Team Archangel, travel to Hereford for a visit to the Chase distillery and farm. After donning a pair of Dubarrys they toured the potato fields and apple orchards sampling some fruit along the way. Surely they hadn’t travelled all this way to sample fruit?! Once in the distillery they toured through the stainless steel vats and had the chance to try the 96% proof straight out the vat. Ouch! Finally, in the sampling room and down to business, the entire Chase range was there to try including their new Espresso Vodka. Ross took full advantage of a 15% discount buying a bottle of Marmalade Vodka. I wonder how long that lasted…? The prize also included a night’s stay at the 5 star Verzon House. Martinis, steaks, Provence rosé and Maison William Chase wines were all enjoyed. It certainly sounds like a thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all, and much deserved too. Well done Team Archangel!

The New One

THE JACK RUSSELL

We added another beautiful pub to the Estate this month, with the opening of The Jack Russell Inn, on the Faccombe Estate right on the Hampshire/West Berkshire Border. The pub boasts a deer park, swimming pond and naturally an eight-bedroom shoot lodge, with an additional three hotel rooms above the pub to be opening in the new year. Good luck to all involved in this very exciting venture!

The New Blood

MEET PAOLO & OLLIE

We’d like to welcome two members to the Cirrus Family: Paolo Corgiolu (PC) as the new landlord for King John Inn, Wiltshire and Ollie Callaghan (OC) who will look after The Yew Tree, Highclere.

We have asked them a few questions to break the ice:

Dead or alive – who would you most like to have dinner with?

OC: Would have to go for dinner with Adele, just because it’s Adele!

PC: I would have dinner with my wife Melanie. I know, I am so romantic!

What would you eat at this dinner?

OC: Sushi and cocktails!

PC: We’d start with a Negroni as an aperitif. The starter would be a pan-fried foie gras followed by a Fiorentina steak, cooked rare with skinny fries and rocket salad. I’d skip the dessert and choose a nice selection of cheese instead. My meal would be complemented with a bottle of Turriga Isola dei Nuraghi 2008.

What was the last lie you told?

OC: I’ve never lied…Or have I?

PC: I told my old manager that I wasn’t going to leave the Bailiwick although I was already looking for a new job to get closer to my family. Oops.
